Crescent Fire Arms operated from the late 1800s until 1931, when they were acquired by Savage. Savage appears to have assembled and sold some guns from remaining parts after the acquisition. Some production may have taken place after 1932 when production was moved from Norwich, CT to Chicopee Falls. Crescent is best known as a manufacturer of “house brand" shotguns.
This Side by Side model is labeled as a No. 60 Empire Hammerless. It is stamped Norwich, Conn USA so we would assume that it was produced no later than 1931. There is no serial number on the shotgun, nor is one required since it’s a pre-1968 model.
The shotgun has a tang safety and two triggers. Both triggers appear to function correctly. The receiver was likely color case hardened originally but most of that finish has been lost due to age. The bore needs to be cleaned up but does not appear to be in bad shape. There is some surface oxidation on the rib between the barrels. We had not disassembled this gun to see if there are any choke markings on the barrel flats.
The stock on this (obviously) is broken and would need repaired or replaced.
If you like older shotguns or working on those shotguns, this one may be a good project for you!
