Description: Antique James Purdey 12ga E grade island lock hammergun 29 3/4" CYL/CLY BARRELS (original chokes) 2 1/2" 1 1/8oz nitro proof Lockup is tight Excellent bores Chokes: .002/.003 Bores:.734/.735 Proofed at .729/.729, well within proof. Minimum wall thickness R:0.022 L:0.026, most of the both sides are well over 30 thou. Rebounding hammers Straight grip stock/splinter forend with correct flat top checkering. LOP 14 1/2 over silvers pad DAC 1 1/2 DAH 2 1/16 7lbs 7oz The silvers recoil pad weighs 7oz if you replaced it with a Pachmayr old English you could get the gun to just over 7lbs. Rounded action bar with carved percussion fences and back action island locks, nicley done border and scroll engraving. Action and barrels supplied by A. Smith (outworker to London trade) and stocked and completely finished by Purdey, current barrels supplied by Webley & Scott and finished and fitted by Purdey in 1895. Excellent condition classic island lock Purdey that will be great on game or clays, gun balances right on the hinge pin. All the great shots of the late 1800s and early 1900s shot Purdey island lock hammerguns and many kept using them over more modern gun designs. Built in 1884, all records from Purdey in pictures.
