Chas. Lancaster body action self opener
Description: This Charles Lancaster "body action" self opener was built at H.A.A Thorns 151 New Bond St. factory in London in 1896. This was a very expensive gun in those days. The guns action was designed by F. Beesley (one of the most prolific gunmakers and designers in the British sporting arms trade) and is built using Beesleys patents 425 & 14488 of 1884, along with H.A.A. Thorns patent 7242 of 1894. The fit and finish on Lancaster guns is superb. This is a high quality gun. The Beasley designed self opening action utilizes one long mainspring that provides both power to the mechanism and the for the self opener. Very clean, simple & strong design. This gun features fully operational Perkes patent over center ejectors, sugar tongs forend fastener and is #1 of a pair. Gun action is tight and barrels are on the face. Locking bolt has lots of bite, the barrels ribs are tight. Screws and pins are perfect. Barrels are perfect. Furniture blacking is perfect. Stock is very good with light hunting marks. No cracks or major issues. Stock and forend were refinished & checkered by Mickey Rainback in England many years ago. Overall a very nice example of a high quality Lancaster self opener body action, probably one of the nicest examples out there. If you find an example that is better than this one...please let me know. I'd love to check it out. This gun was pattern tested with 1 oz., low pressure, mild velocity loads and throws awesome patterns!! Choking is perfect for all upland game birds! Especially pheasants! This gun can be shipped directly to you, no FFL required. $2100 Buyer pays actual shipping (averaging about $60) SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge Manufacturer: Charles Lancaster Model: Body action Serial Number: 07825 Barrel Length: 30 Bore: Shiny Chambers: 2.5” Ejectors: Yes Condition: Excellent Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Very good Bore Condition: Excellent Barrels: In proof Barrel Type: 4 iron British best damascus Triggers: 2 Stock Comb: 1 7/8” Stock Heel: 2 3/8” Stock Cast: 1/4” cast off Fore End: Splinter Butt Pad: Rubber LOP: 14 5/8” Rib: Game rib Weight: 6 lbs. 10.6 oz.
