Henry Atkins (formerly of Purdey's)
Description: Makers Matched Pair of Henry Atkin (From Purdeys) Self-Opening Sidelock Ejector Side-by-Side Shotguns, 12 Gauge Serial Numbers 1 & 2 in Gold – 1916 & 1923 Production Specifications (identical for both guns):
An extraordinarily rare and desirable factory-matched pair of Henry Atkin self-opening sidelock ejectors, built by one of the most respected names to ever leave Audley House. Henry Atkin – head of the Purdey actioning department before founding his own firm in 1914 – produced only a handful of true best guns before his untimely death in 1931. These two guns, completed in 1916 and 1923, represent the pinnacle of his personal work: Assisted-opening (self-opening) sidelocks – a feature found on only the finest London guns of the era. Both guns remain tight on face with brilliant bores and exhibit the legendary Atkin balance that made his guns the choice of discerning sportsmen worldwide. The 28" barrels are choked IC/Mod – perfect for driven grouse, walked-up pheasant, or high birds – while the featherweight 6 lb 7 oz build and 14 1/2" stocks with leather-covered pads deliver lightning-fast handling. Housed in their original makers oak & leather case with brass corners, trade label, and accessories, this pair has been professionally refreshed yet retains honest originality throughout.
