Description: RARE MANTON’S PATENT INFRINGEMENT TUBELOCK 12 BORE DOUBLE SHOTGUN BY WM. MOORE OF LONDON CA. 1818. Engraved with the serial number “300” on the trigger guard tang. One of the rare tube lock’s made by Moore infringing Joseph Manton’s tube lock patent of 1818 and for which Manton sued Moore for in 1818 and lost costing him 31 pounds in court fees. 32” browned Damascus barrels with maker’s touch mark proofs at the breech. Profusely engraved mounts with game scene engraved panels on the trigger guard and butt plate tang. Scroll engraved locks and hammers. Case hardened barrel tang with fancy scroll engraving. Deluxe walnut stock with straight checkered wrist (14” pull).. Rosewood ramrod. Superb condition as well as being an early historic pre percussion cap detonator gun. 100% original and complete with 95% original case hardening, blue and brown Damascus barrel finish. Locks in working order and mint bores. . Even the screws are near mint. Stock with all the original finish and only minor signs of use. Maker’s name on lock plates and the barrel as well as the “78 EDGEWARE ROAD, LONDON” address. For reference see “THE MANTONS” by Neal and Back pp. 30, 178 and 197.
