Description: #147200, W & C Scott Gunmakers, Birmingham, England: A W. C. Scott SxS Highest Grade Boxlock Model Chatsworth Deluxe 12 Bore Made 1987, This was Scott's highest grade boxlock in the 1980 to 1990 period, There were about 200 Model Chatsworth built, This gun is with 26" Ejector Dovetail Lump barrels at .726 .011 & .027" (Imp.Cyl. & Imp. Mod), Original 2 3/4" chambers, Single non-selective trigger, Scalloped action back, Fairly nice wood with decent black/brown contrast, Carved shoulders at the knuckle of the forend, Splinter forend with a frontal Anson release, Straight hand stock at 13 15/16 x 1 7/16 x 2 1/4" over a 1" pad, Slight Cast-Off for the right hand, 6 lbs. 3 oz., 98% coverage of floral & scroll that has more depth than lower grade models, Initial's on the escutcheon in the stock line, The gun retains 92% original case colors, The barrels retain 98% original blue, The wood finish remains at 95%, The checkering is at 99%, The breech face retains 90% case colors. There is a very small chip of wood missing near the forend tip. It is cased in the makers leather trimmed canvas trunk with accessories and the proper trade label. The Chatsworth sold new in England in 1985 for 3080-pound sterling or about $4307 U.S. in 1985, plus the case was 250 pounds or about $350 U.S. Abercrombie & Fitch imported several of the roughly 200 Model Chatsworth's made in the 1980 to 1990 period. The days are over for Boxlock game guns coming out of England at this price. Here is a piece that came from the Premier Works after Webley & Scott discontinued their production in 1979. In 1980 Mr. Patrick Whatley was the managing director of the new W&C Scott shop and had about 26 craftsmen at the facility, most from Webley & Scott. Mr. Whatley began as a gunmaker with Webley & Scott in 1947. Then in 1985 Holland & Holland bought all the assets of W&C Scott and it continued from there with the Scott and H&H then offered their own new boxlock gun.
