Description: Factory Engraved C.G. BONEHILL Sidelock SIDE x SIDE HAMMERLESS Shotgun C&R BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED English Double Barrel Here we present a C&R C.G. Bonehill Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa the turn of the century in Birmingham, England. London and Birmingham were the epicenter for English gunmaking all the way through and continuing after the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. There are indicators on the side with the gold inlaid letters “D” and “L”, which are cocking indicators which were popular on the early hammerless guns. “L” is for Loaded and the “D” is for Discharged. There is one for each lock, but the indicator on the left side is absent. The overall condition is good. The actions are strong. The bores are smooth and reflective. The stock has a small, stable split behind the left lock. The forestock has a sliver lost at the top edge of the right side. The forearm lug on the bottom of the barrel has been resoldered. The spring in the forearm that holds the forearm on has failed, so the lug has been drilled and tapped and a small screw and washer pierces the wooden forearm and goes into the lug. The butt plate is chipped. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrels are 28-1/2 inches.
