MISSOURI STATE PRISON Marked J.N. SCOTT Double Barrel 10 GAUGE SHOTGUN C&R Very Neat State History!
Description: MISSOURI STATE PRISON Marked J.N. SCOTT Double Barrel 10 GAUGE SHOTGUN C&R Very Neat State History! Here we present a Missouri State Prison Marked J.N. Scott Double Barrel 10 Gauge Shotgun, likely made circa the early-1900s in England for import to the United States. English companies made and imported many shotguns to American hardware stores, mail-order houses, and gun shops in the United States. This would have been imported primarily as a sporting firearm designed for hunting fowl. Still owned by the State, The Missouri State Penitentiary opened in 1836 along the banks of the Missouri River in Jefferson City. The prison housed inmates for 168 years and was the oldest continually operating prison west of the Mississippi until it was decommissioned in 2004. Known for the violent offenders that were housed there, it was once named the “The bloodiest 47 acres in America” by Time Magazine. The penitentiary has held many of America’s worst criminals. In 1967, James Earl Ray reported to his job in the prison bakery early. He was helped into a large box that was used to ship loaves of bread. Soon, a truck drove up to pick up a supply and several boxes, including the one containing Ray, were loaded up and the truck left the State Penitentiary completing his escape. It was nearly a year later on Thursday, April 4, 1968 that Ray assassinated Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee. Other famous criminals to be housed there over the years include Charles “Pretty Boy” Floyd and famous fighter Sonny Liston; Who after learning to box in prison went on to become the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1953 after his parole in 1952. The overall condition is good. The action functions properly. The bores are in good condition. On the underside of the left barrel there is a bulge and it has split. “JN SCOTT” is engraved on both locks. Atop the barrel rib “ST. LOUIS MOTEL 1888 LONDON FINE TWIST MO. STATE PRISON No. 4” can be read. Here is an interesting shotgun with a lot of Missouri history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 18-1/4 inches. Gauge: 10 Length of Pull: 12-3/4 inches Chokes: Open/Open Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1465 #20016 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
