L.C. Smith 16 Gauge Field – HIGH CONDITION, CURTIS FOREND, VFI CERTIFIED, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1915, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, Chokes SK/IM, LOP 14", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 400400R There were a LOT of Field Grade 16ga. Elsies made over the years. Most have seen a lot of use and show their age, and most are rather on the heavy side weighing between 6 ¾ and 7lbs. This L.C. Smith 16ga., sn400400R built in 1915 on a Featherweight frame and weighs in at a very well balanced 6 1/2lbs. This is a different gun in several ways. First, it has the Curtis Patent forend release only used on L.C. Smith guns for a few years and quite a nice feature that many L.C. Smith shooter and collectors really seek out and like having. Second, the gun has all FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ON WOOD AND METAL, WITH 92% VIVID CASE COLOR, 95% BLUE ON THE BARRELS, 85% CHARCOAL BLUE ON THE TRIGGER GUARD, AND MIRROR PERFECT BORES. The wood retains its original finish but it has “crinkled” and could use a restoration (we can do the wood restoration to perfection for you within 8 weeks of purchase or any later date for a very reasonable price), but we will leave that up to the purchaser to decide. The wood is nicely figured with excellent checkering and not a crack or split anywhere. Most shooters buying guns of this nature are shooter/collectors that will use the gun for upland birds and clays. I cannot think of a better suited, or more affordable gun to do that with, as most all your classic American side x sides in 16ga. have gone up quite a bit in price and are becoming hard to find, especially guns that retain lots of factory condition! This gun has 28” barrels factory choked SK/IM, mirror perfect bores, with the barrels tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, with the top lever way right of center. The mechanics are perfect as are the screws. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, having been stripped to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned, each part inspected for integrity and function, properly lubricated and reassembled (a $275 service in our shop!). These guns are going up in value as you enjoy their use, so you won't lose money should you ever decide to sell this nice little piece. The price is affordable, the gun is attractive and 100% functional, and you can shoot RST spreader loads to make it shoot like she was IC/M for greater versatility on the clays course or in the field. Great way to get into the small-bore vintage double gun game without breaking the bank. Thanks for looking!
