Browning Superposed 28 Gauge - POINTER GRADE, RARE, 99.5%, vintage firearms inc
Description:
General Specs: Browning, Year 1968, 28 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, Chokes SK/SK, LOP 14 7/16", DAH 2 7/16", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: 1877 F8
The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in plain-jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped. The Pointer Grade was introduced in 1960, replacing the Grade III of the 1950’s. The engraving pattern was nearly full coverage fine scroll and game scene vignettes. The wood was fine English walnut with notable figure. The Pointer Grade was made in very small numbers and is a highly sought after Superposed, especially in the 28ga. guns. Browning did not ship its first 28ga. Superposed guns until 1960, so there are no Grade 3, pre-1960 28ga. guns produced. This fine Pointer Grade, sn1877 F8 shipped in 1968, is exceptional in many ways. The gun REMAINS IN FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, WITH NO HANDLING MARKS OR WEAR EVIDENT ANYWHERE ON THE GUN. The original, period correct Browning case is in superb condition as well. The action is beautifully engraved by FN factory engraver Louis Acampo and is so signed on the right-hand side. The French grey finish on the action and gold plating on the trigger is 100% and shows no wear from use. The barrels retain 100% factory blue and are 26.5”, choked SK/SK from the factory, making for the perfect upland game gun for the Northwoods grouse/woodcock, the gentleman Bobwhite quail, or western birds behind fine pointing dogs. The wood on this gun is nicely figured English walnut with notable fiddleback figure. The original owner of this Pointer Grade returned the gun to Browning under their warranty for saltwood and had the stock replaced. He shot the gun only a few times after it returned. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING DOCUMENTATION OF THE WOOD REPLACEMENT, BUT WE GUARANTEE IN WRITING THAT THE STOCK WAS REPLACED BY THE FACTORY. We have tested the existing wood for any salt contamination here in our gunsmithing department and will provide a SALT FREE GUARANTEE in writing to the next owner, in addition to any other documentation we obtain. There is no metal damage whatsoever on the gun…ALL IS LIKE NEW. The rarity of this Superposed makes for a grand investment grade gun, WITH LESS THAN 40 POINTER GRADES MADE IN 28GA. HUNTING STYLE BETWEEN 1964 AND 1977 WHEN PRODUCTION STOPPED. THIS IS AN ULTRA-RARE SUPERPOSED! This is a dynamic handling shotgun that begs to be taken afield. This gun has been shot a few times, but the barrels remain tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever well to the right of center. As such there should be no hesitation to enjoy this fine Browning for a day afield or at the clays course. Priced to sell, don’t miss out on this opportunity to improve your collection of fine Browning Superposed high-grades. Their value is continuing to escalate again and she won’t last long! Thanks for looking.
