George Lewis. George Edward Lewis of London. 8 Bore Market Shotgun. Birmingham London from 1852 to 1908. This gun probably dates to the late 1880s-90s as it is built with a fluid steel barrel. And takes a cartridge case. Single shot under lever release, tip down 8 bore that features a heavy 35 1/2" barrel with finely checkered forend attached with barrel wedge and a horn inset. Stock is straight English style with right side plate and hammer. Original solid red recoil pad Excellent clean bore. Single front bead sight. Has Birmingham proofs. Checkered walnut stocks are in excellent condition with sharp checkering and no cracks. Side plate is stamped G,E, Lewis. 13 3/4" LOP. Locks up tight. Comes with a hand made wooden case with cleaning rod and brushes. These market guns are rarely seen today with any condition. The era of the market hunter died at the end of the 19th century when market hunting was outlawed in England and America. These guns generally saw hard use and few have survived in any condition. Nice example of a very scarce gun. Serial # 25497. Also have 40 loaded shells with #7 shot for this gun (Not included) but can be bought.
