This gorgeous piece is finely engraved in early English style. Engraved is the butt plate, Steel pistol grip cap, barrel tang, trigger guard, hammer, lock surface, barrel breech and most screw heads . W. SMITH is engraved in the lock plate. This is a live pigeon gun made for pigeon tournaments. They were made lightweight and well balanced, and always without a ramrod. Kind of rare actually. The 8 gauge barrel is tapered with flats sides at the breech, and a 12 inch long rib to 34 inch round barrel. Looks good for its 100+ years of service. No disturbing pits are visible. Overall length 52-1/4 inches. There are 2 British proofs on the bottom of the barrel with a 7 between them. I believe one proof to be the British definitive black powder proof. The other could be the British inspection proof. Stocked in English walnut. I am not an expert. Questions? Ask! 3 day NON-firing inspection period.
