Description:
Very rare gun - these big bore Purdey's are difficult to find in respectable condition and this gun is quite nice. Made as a back action hammer gun with 32" Damascus barrels and has wedge fastened splinter forend which is nicely checkered in point pattern. The action appears plated and and appears to retain most of its original finish. Jones underlever is lightly engraved and blued. The fine English Walnut buttstock is checkered in a point pattern with gold oval near the toe and terminates with its original checkered born buttplate. The top of the comb does show some sweep for a man with heavy cheeks creating a good deal of cast off.
This gun remains in excellent overall condition. Barrels retain most of an older restored damascus pattern and barrels have been nitro proved as seen in the photos. The stocks are sound and retain most of an older restored factory quality finish, checkering is quite good and well defined, and stocks have never been sanded as wood to metal fit is perfect. The buttplate is very good as seen in the photos. Underlever appears to have been reblued long ago when the gun was in service. The bores are mostly bright and shiny and the mechanics are fine.
