ANTIQUE Percussion Shotgun J. Henry & Son MARKED LOCK
Description:
ANTIQUE Percuss Shotgun J. Henry & Son MARKED LOCK
14 Gauge Single Shot Made in Pennsylvania
Here we present an Antique Percussion Shotgun with J. Henry & Son Marked Lock. James Henry & Son were gunsmiths in a large family of gunsmiths in the 1800s. The Henry family worked as gunsmiths in Pennsylvania for nearly two hundred years. James Henry and his son Granville Henry were the first in the Henry family to produce percussion, rather than flintlock, arms. They supplied many “plains rifles”, i.e. half-stock percussion arms with thick walled octagonal barrels, for the western trade and then after the Civil War, they made breechloading rifles and shotguns.
The lock is marked “J. HENRY/ & SON”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are smooth and dark. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is smooth and dark. The stock is in good shape. The action on this shotgun is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a great example of a hunting weapon that would have been found in just about every home on the frontier in the mid-19th Century!
