Antique W Richards 12 Ga Side Lever Hammer Double 30.25" Laminated Barrels
Description:
The W. Richards 12-gauge side-lever hammer shotgun is a break-action side-by-side configuration featuring dual external hammers and triggers. It is built with 30.25-inch laminated steel barrels fitted with a plain solid rib and a front brass bead sight. The chambers are sized for 2¾-inch shells and the bores are described as having modified fixed chokes. The receiver employs reverse lock plates and a side thumb lever for opening, characteristic of this period design. Overall length is 46½ inches with a length of pull measuring 14¼ inches.
This shotgun is used. The barrels exhibit aged patina consistent with moderate finish wear and surface oxidation. Lockup between barrels and receiver shows light play typical of its age. The bores are noted as clean with light frost and mild pitting. The walnut stock and forearm retain their checkering and straight-grip form but show handling marks and dings throughout. The forearm has a hairline crack approximately one inch long, and the buttstock shows several repaired areas in the wood. The metal butt plate remains intact and secure.
Serial number 1561 is present on the firearm. No accessories or additional components are included beyond the complete shotgun itself. The configuration reflects traditional English construction with laminated barrels and mechanical features representative of late nineteenth-century production by W. Richards.
