Antique Whitney Safety Fire Arms Co. 12 Gauge Squeeze Cocker
Description: Serial #444, 12 Gauge (2 5/8 inch chambers), 30 inch Damascus barrel with very good bores with light to moderate roughness. This is a Grade I, side by side shotgun manufactured by the Whitney Safety Fire Arms Company in Florence, Massachusetts circa 1887-95 that features a unique squeeze safety grip. The barrels show much of the original Damascus pattern with perhaps 55-60% of the original brown with the balance pewter-gray and free of any dents or bulges. The frame has remnants of the original vibrant case-colors with the balance faded to gray. The checkered stock shows one inch diameter plugged holes just behind the frame and is otherwise solid as is the forearm. The original checkered hard rubber butt plate remains in very fine condition featuring the company logo. The action functions properly with the barrels on face having a tight lock up. A unique action and relatively small production with an estimated total of 1100 make this a rare shotgun that will turn heads at the next vintage shoot. Antique SOLD |
