Fox AE 16 Ga - 28” No. 4 WT, 5 3/4LBS., FIGURED WOOD, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Fox, Year 1927, 16 Gauge, 5lbs. 13oz., Chokes M/F, LOP 13 7/8", DAH 3 1/8", DAC 1 3/4" Serial Number: 302549 Ansley H. Fox got it right with the small-bore Fox, the smallest, most well-proportioned, most reliable of all the vintage American double shotguns. If you examine a standard Parker or Featherweight L.C. Smith in 16-gauge, they will tip the scales at 6 1/2 to 7 lbs. This little Fox weighs just 5lbs. 13oz. and balances perfectly just ahead of the hinge pin. The gun presented here for sale, sn302549 made in 1927, has 40% original case color (thinning), perfect screws, 100% rust blue, beautifully figured factory wood, perfect checkering, and a VFI hand-rubbed oil finish. All parts are original to the gun except we replaced the old, rock-hard pad. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $360 service in our shop. With 28” number 4 weight barrels choked M/F, excellent bores, tight ribs, barrels tight on hinge pin and breech face, and ejectors, this gun has all the most desirable features and excellent mechanics and top lever that is well right of center. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning we stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, properly lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED guns have a 90-day mechanical warranty (a $375 service in our shop). Fox ejector small bores in excellent condition are difficult to find in today's marketplace as all the good ones have been tucked away for the owner's pleasurable use, investment in tangible assets, and to hand down to the next generation. Because of this, prices have gone up significantly over the last few years and will continue to do so. What an attractive gun in great condition with no issues. A rare find in a world where the Fox small bore double guns have all but disappeared, and she has “curb appeal”! Thanks for looking!
