William Read 8 gauge Percussion side by side
Description: William Read (A Boston maker) Percussion 8 gauge side by side shotgun. This gun is an honest shooter. I shot it at Friendship for years with no complaints on its performance. It is cylinder bore, with 36" damascus barrels. The gun weighs right at 12 pounds. It has a 14-1/4" LOP to the front trigger. The bores are smooth and have no pitting or rust but are a bit dark. Barrels and breech are sound and tight and the barrels are locked tight in the stock with dual wedge pins. Locks and triggers work well. Half cock and full cock both work. Gun is mechanically fine. I put a Kick eez Cheek eez stick on pad on the stock to make the stock dimensions more shootable for me. They are supposed to peel off without damage to the finish. The gun (without stick on pad) has drop measurements of DAC 1-3/4" and DAH 2-5/8" Engraving on the locks, hammers, and tang remains very crisp. Waterfowl scenes on both locks. Checkering is worn with time but still offers good purchase. Nipple threads are clean and tight on standard 1/4-28 nipples. A nice old American waterfowl gun.
