This is a rare gun!
The Bannerman/Spencer slide action shotgun was the FIRST such action shotgun on the market. Made from the Christian Spencer patent design (same designer as the Spencer Carbine).
This is the FINEST example of a Bannerman/Spencer I have encountered in 40+ years of being a gunsmith and collector.
Mechanically it functions flawlessly. The receiver was color case hardened and has faded over the past more than a century but in bright light mottling can still be seen. The barrel has a beautiful Damascus twist pattern and is solid inside and out. The bore is bright and in excellent condition. The wood is original walnut, in very good condition and has beautiful grain and color.
This was obviously one of Bannerman's higher grade shotguns and while it has seen use it has been well cared for.
This is a true piece of firearms history. Rarely seen on the market.
