Description: N.R. DAVIS & SONS “Ajax” DOUBLE BARREL .410 Gauge HAMMERLESS Shotgun C&R ROARING TWENTIES Era SIDE x SIDE Small Game Gun Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R N. R. Davis & Sons “Diana” Single Barrel .410 Bore Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa 1917-1930 in Norwich, Connecticut. N. R. Davis and Sons, who was the successor to N. R. Davis Arms Company (1853-1883) operated from 1883 to 1917 when N. R. Davis purchased Warner Arms Corporation and the name changed to Davis-Warner Arms Corporation which operated from 1917 to 1930. Crescent Fire Arms Company purchased Davis-Warner Arms Corporation on May 23, 1930 and the name was changed to Crescent-Davis Arms Corporation. Crescent-Davis Arms Corporation was subsequently purchased by Savage Arms corporation on December 15, 1930, and operated independently until it was merged with J. Stevens Arms Company in 1932. The Ajax Breech gun is a variant of the Davis-Warner Deluxe hammerless gun, with no records being available to give a more exact date. The .410 shotgun, often touted as a “beginner’s gun” because of its attractiveness to young shooters, is usually lightweight with thin patterns and doesn’t deliver a big charge which could potentially scare away a young shooter. The origins of the .410 go back to the end of the nineteenth century, when farmers shot birds and small game to feed their families. There wasn’t any wing shooting involved here, just pop them wherever they were and take ‘em home for mom to cook. The overall condition is fine. Original finishes are preserved. Strong action.
