Richard Fanzoj 12 Bore – FERLACH AUSTRIA, SIDELOCK, 6 1/4LBS, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Richard Fanzoj, Year 1963, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, Chokes IC/IM, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 48554 Those of us that love the traditional side x side shotgun for our shooting sports will wonder “who is Richard Fanzoj?” My brief search shows he was likely part of the family of Joseph Franzoj, a prominent gunmaker building some of the finest sporting guns in the world in the gun making valley of Ferlach, Austria. Ferlach is a small town of about 7000 residents and the only real industry there is the building of fine firearms. This 12-bore is an extraordinary example of Ferlach’s treasure built by Richard Fanzoj in 1963. It is a Best Sidelock Ejector 12-gauge, factory marked 2 ¾” MAGNUM, with 28" Bohler Antinit steel barrels (the finest of steel) choked IC/LM (.008/.025). Lockup is via Purdey double under lugs with a hidden third fastener. This is a striking double gun. It features some of the elements you expect from the Ferlach trade: fine-line checkering in a more ornate pattern than you'd see on a London best, an exceptionally long trigger tang with a dagger point at the end, a slightly more rounded fore end than typically produced elsewhere, masterful banknote style scroll engraving with background shading covering nearly 100% of the action, and the 9-pin locks are French Grey in a black action body. The rib on the gun is a work of art unto itself, as it seems to be finely engraved in an attractive pattern from breech to muzzle. The gun is in excellent mechanical condition with strong, well-timed ejectors, crisp triggers, perfect bores, tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. This is an upland hunter’s dream gun at 6 1/4lbs., lighter than most 20ga. guns, so you can carry the gun all day in upland cover and adjust your load to the game…7/8 ounce loads for quail and the like, to hot 1 3/8oz. loads of large pellets for late season wild pheasants. The gun is truly a BEST GUN in all ways and is priced to sell and eminently more affordable than a similarly decorated English gun. SEE BELOW FOR THE GUN’S SPECIFICATIONS. The Ferlach region is famous for fine guns and this is one of the nicest I have seen in years. Thanks for looking!
