Description: FACTORY ENGRAVED Belgian “Grade C” 12 Gauge Double Barrel SxS C&R Shotgun Likely VON LENGERKE & DETMOLD Import from Belgium Here we present a C&R Factory Engraved Belgian Grade C Double Barrel Side by Side Trap Shotgun, made circa 1910 in Liege, Belgium for import to the United States, likely by Von Lengerke & Detmold. Several Belgian companies made and imported many shotguns to American hardware stores, mail-order houses such as Sears & Roebuck, and gun shops in the United States between 1893 and the roaring twenties. Von Lengerke & Detmold was a well-respected New York dealer of fine European made sporting guns and fishing tackle. They were founded in 1882 and sold to Abercrombie & Fitch in 1928. England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is a Belgian fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammerless gun would have been primarily a sporting firearm designed for hunting fowl or taken out on a Saturday afternoon for a little trap/skeet shooting! And, it was always good to have a shotgun around the house just in case ne’er do wells happened to show up with ill intentions. The overall condition is fine. Excellent action. Bright and smooth bores. Excellent stock with sharp checkering. The frame is nicely engraved. Legible markings. Numbers match. This example sports a nice hard rubber buttplate. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrels are 27-1/2 inches.
