The Charles Smith & Sons boxlock is a classic vintage, side-by-side (SxS) shotgun built in the English Midlands. Manufactured in the UK from the late 19th century into the mid-20th century, these hand-crafted fowling pieces are prized by collectors for their quality and traditional English lines.
The firm was established in Birmingham in 1861, relocating to Newark-on-Trent in the early 20th century. The exact name \"Charles Smith & Sons\" was utilized prominently from 1904 to 1917, and again from 1922 until the company‚s closure in 1947. These shotguns were typically nitro-proofed in Birmingham, though some earlier models featured Damascus barrels.
the hand guard seems to come off quite easily when pulled downward but does stay attached to the firearm the previous owners name is engraved on the barrel and the town in Oregon where he lived is on the other barrel (see pictures)
