Engraved LIVERPOOL WILLIAMS & POWELL Shotgun PERCUSSION Double Barrel Fowling Gun
Description: Engraved LIVERPOOL WILLIAMS & POWELL Shotgun
PERCUSSION Double Barrel Fowling Gun
Here we present an antique Williams & Powell Percussion Side by Side Hammer Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century. Thomas Williams and Samuel Powell bought their gun business from Mrs. Ann Patrick (formally Edward Patrick and Jeremiah Patrick) and they operated at 25 South Castle Street in Liverpool, England, in 1833. They operated until 1905, when the company was sold to Westley Richards. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead. This is a very English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality.
This gun features engravings of hunting dogs and game birds. The top rib of the barrel is marked “WILLIAMS & POWELL” and “25 SOUTH CASTLE ST LIVERPOOL”.
The overall condition is good. The steel surfaces show appropriate wear and weathering. The barrels have turned a plum color. The markings are legible. The stock is smooth and solid. The bores are smooth and in very good condition with a light layer of dust throughout. The actions are strong and crisp.
