F. WANGLER Antique EUROPEAN 12 Gauge Double Barrel SxS Percussion SHOTGUN
GOLD INLAID Shotgun Imported to the United States
Description: F. WANGLER Antique EUROPEAN 12 Gauge Double Barrel SxS Percussion SHOTGUN
GOLD INLAID Shotgun Imported to the United States
Here we present an antique European F. Wangler Double Barrel Side by Side Percussion Shotgun, manufactured circa the mid to late 1850s likely in either Liege, Belgium or Birmingham, England. This shotgun would have been imported to the U.S. sometime prior to the start of the American Civil War.
During this era, there were many English and Belgian gunmakers who were capitalizing on the eager markets in the United States. This 12 gauge fowling piece was made in a great gauge to go after high flying geese and ducks. Its mid-length 29 inch barrel made for easy hunting in the dense woods or traipsing through the marsh looking for game. This would have been a staple of most homesteads hanging over the mantle during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s.
The overall condition is good. Strong action all around. Both bores are in good shape for their ages. The stock is solid through and through, despite its wear from age. Clear markings.
