About Us: I am a custom gunmaker specializing in re-creating pre-World War I sporting rifles, crafted with precision and respect for tradition. Starting with quality rifles such as the Ruger No.1, Mauser, Winchester Model 70, Ruger M77, CZ, or BRNO, I transform them into sleek, slender hunting rifles inspired by the elegance of 1910 designs. I also craft the elegant Faeton Underhammer muzzleloading rifles and Model 1911 .45 Super Longslide pistols. Call me or visit my site, which is listed on some of the photos, for more information regarding my line of fine bespoke firearms. Also check out my Custom Services listing under GUNSMITHING.
WILLIAM POWELL JONES UNDERLEVER DOUBLE 12
Description: PRICE REDUCED TO $995 ANTIQUE - NO FFL NEEDED Few mechanical things are as beautiful as a fine English shotgun. As a perfect blend of form and function, it’s difficult to quantify the nuances that make such a shotgun feel like a feather in the hand that seemingly rises to the occasion and aims itself. To own and handle such a gun is real joy and a tribute to the maker. This William Powell Double 12 is such a gun. It represents the quintessential fine English design – that which became the benchmark which the rest of the world sought to copy. Made in 1877, this Powell is really rather rare as it features the Jones underlever action to lock up the fine 30-inch Damascus barrels that still ring sweetly like a dinner bell. Jones underlever actions were rarely used in shotguns as they were reserved for double rifle designs where their superior strength was required. Another rarity is the swamped rib which bears the Powell name. Chambers are 2 ½ inches and the barrels are chocked improved and full. The left barrel is marked “not for ball”. Bores are clean with moderate pitting. The gun has not been putzed by any backyard gunsmithing and is just as clean and crisp as it appears in the photos. The action locks up snug with only the slightest perception of looseness The backaction locks are English best-quality and have a like-new crispness with rebounding hammers. With an overall length of 46 ½ inches, the length of pull for each trigger is 13 ½ and 14 3/8 inches while drop at the comb is 1 ¾ and 2 ½ inches at the heel and only a slight cast off at the toe. This fine Powell is clean, and crisp, and weighing in at 6 lbs, 2 ounces, this shotgun is a real sweetheart in the field. With the increased interest in shooting these fine, vintage hammer doubles, appropriate shells are now readily available. Price: $995 Detailed photos available to serious inquires.
