Few names in the world of fine sporting arms command the reverence of Boss & Co., a maker whose legacy has defined the pinnacle of British gunmaking since its founding by Thomas Boss in 1812. The firm’s standing among London’s “Best” makers was perhaps most fittingly summarized by author Donald Dallas in the title of his renowned work, Boss & Co.: Builders of Best Guns Only. Completed circa 1955 according to Nigel Brown’s British Gunmakers Volume One: London, this elegant over/under represents the refined craftsmanship and understated sophistication that made Boss guns legendary throughout the sporting world.
The gun is built with blued steel barrels featuring a single red bead sight on the hand-filed flat solid rib, with the upper left barrel signed “BOSS & Co. 41 ALBEMARLE STREET PICCADILLY LONDON MADE IN ENGLAND.” The breech is adorned with delicate scroll engraving, while the flats carry proper London proof marks and 2 3/4 inch chamber designations with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a beautifully casehardened sidelock action displaying classic English rose and scroll engraving surrounding “BOSS & Co.” banners on each lockplate along with patent markings on either side. The engraving continues gracefully across the trigger guard, tangs, and top lever, accented by nitre-blued and bright finished lock pins. Features include bushed firing pins, double triggers, gold centerlined cocking indicators, a right-hand rolled trigger guard, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” designation.
The gun is stocked with a finely figured and multi-point checkered forend incorporating engraved iron and an Anson push-button release, paired with a graceful semi-pistol grip stock featuring teardrop drop points, a blank gold oval, and an orange recoil pad. Measurements (U/O): bores proofed at .729 inches and measuring .731 inches; choke constrictions .021/.012 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.024 inches; 1 11/16 inch drop at comb; 2 11/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull with cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 9 oz.

Condition:
Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence, some slight thinning at the breech of the upper tube, and crisp checkering on the stock and forend.The gun is mechanically excellent.
