Boss & Co 12 Bore Sidelever Hammergun

New to the Vault! We have the pleasure to showcase a beauriful piece of history and fine example of English Master Craftsmanship. The Boss & Co Sidelever Hammergun is a true piece of art on its own. 

These original barrels are in pristine condition and rare find, spotless mirrors inside the bores, and choked improved cylinder and ½ choke. The length of the barrels are 28" with the maker's name and address on the rib:  "BOSS & CO., 73 ST JAMES'S STREET, LONDON." The double apostrophe "'s's" is charming.

As shown in the photos, the Barrels are fully within proof and safe for modern nitro shells, annotated with British Nitro Proof ("BNP") testing on the flats at "3 TONS PER SQUARE INCH". 

Another extremely rare feature is the action which features a side-lever release. Serial number 3655 indicates a likely production date in the early to mid 1880's; most of their guns at that time were an under-lever release, transitioning to top-lever releases during that time. Side lever releases are quite uncommon to find for Boss hammerguns in my humble opinion. (All numbers matching)

The action and island locks are eleganly engraved in fine detailed scrollwork, with the maker's name "BOSS & CO." at the top of each lock. Fore-end latch with comparable scrollwork has finely checkered wood. 

Handsome well-figured English straight-hand walnut stock with dark grain has a blank brass roundel ready for engraving. 15" length of pull with a neutral stock. Hare's ears upright hammers are beautifully engraved, along with the topstrap and fences which have gorgeous acanthus scrollwork. The action and face have virtually no powder marks, and the flats are likewise marked "BNP" confirming modern nitro proof compliance.

This piece of history and art is paired with an all-leather Boss & Co upright travel case to accommodate the action with hammers, and fits perfectly to provide protection of these components while traveling.
