E & G Higham 28 bore Boxlock Non-Ejector With 28” Nitro Damascus Barrels
Description: *** SOLD *** This E & G Higham represents a rare chance to buy a very nicely finished 28 bore Anson & Deeley boxlock, a design that had become such a hugely successful design by the last decade of the 19th Century. The action is nicely engraved with foliate scroll and this coupled with the beautiful nitro Damascus barrels and highly figured walnut stock makes it a very pretty and 'shootable' gun for either game or clays. This gun number 22027 was made circa 1896 and was recently refurbished by Toby Barclay of Heritage Guns UK. *** The action is of Anson & Deeley design and features: Double triggers bolted by an automatic top tang safety slide; Top lever opening, operating a 'Purdey Bolt' by way of a 'Scott Spindle'; Hackett snap forend catch. There are some traces of antique corrosion on internal and external surfaces, these have been passivated.Gun weight 4lb 13oz Engraving style Fine foliate scroll. Action bar signed in scrolling banner ‘E&G HIGHAM’. Beaded fences. Gold inlaid plaque engraved ‘SAFE’.Trigger pulls measure approximately: Front trigger 3 lbs Rear trigger 4 lbs. *** The rebrowned nitro Damascus barrels are 28" in length, chambered for 2 ¾" (70mm) cartridges and are of brazed 'dovetail' lump construction with soft soldered ribs. There are a few small, vestigial marks in each bore. Top rib is of the smooth, concave, game type. Birmingham reproof for 2 ¾” nitro powder cartridges in 2018. *** The right barrel is bored 0.552 and has a constriction of 0,003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is bored 0.561 with a constriction of 0.024 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. Great choking of upland game like dove, quail, woodcock and grouse. *** Straight Hand Stock and Splinter Forend are crafted from highly figured walnut. The stock is lightly cast-off for a right-handed shot, features a vacant white metal oval and is finished with a 1” leather covered recoil pad. The forend is fitted with a finely engraved steel tip. The 24 lines per inch checkering has been freshened to its original design. The stock is finished with a traditional linseed oil based preparation as used on best guns by one of the top English maker. This finish uses no grain fillers to achieve its deep, smooth lustre, only many hours of alternate build and flatting off of the surface. Stock dimensions are 14-1/2” by 1-7/16” by 2-3/16”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter. *** US Agent for Heritage Guns UK. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described. SOLD Antique: Yes |
