Description: Engraved THOMAS WILD Double Barrel BOXLOCK 12 Gauge C&R HAMMERLESS Shotgun With WESTLEY RICHARDS Marked Barrels w/EJECTORS Here we present a C&R Factory Engraved British Thomas Wild Boxlock Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa the mid to late 1920s in Birmingham, England. Thomas Edwin Wild was born in Leicester, England in 1825 and began work as a stock maker in 1849. It appears sometime after that he began working for noted gunmaker Benjamin Watson and sometime between 1851 and 1857 he married Watson’s daughter. In 1857 Watson handed his business over to Wild, and making a long story short, Wild’s business was handed down either directly or indirectly all the way through 1966. England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammerless gun would have been used for putting game on the table, spending an afternoon skeet shooting, or defending one’s property. The overall condition is fine. Original finish has been preserved. Robust action. Mirror bright bores with very little wear. The stock is in very good shape with less than average wear. Sharp markings. The factory engravings showcase fine details and remain vibrant. Numbers match. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrels are 28 inches.
