Description:
For sale today is a beautiful English game gun by Fred T. Baker. Fred Baker was known for producing outstanding and high quality guns and this fine double is no exception. Built in London around 1900 during the golden era of English gun making, this Anson and Deeley style boxlock ejector remains in very nice condition. The beautifully aged action with slightly grayed case colors really highlights the bold hand engraved scroll work. It’s also somewhat rounded making it very comfortable to carry in the field. Additionally, it has beaded fences and a dolls head extension. The gorgeous patina on the action pairs perfectly with its 30” nitro proved damascus barrels for that classic vintage feel. The damascus pattern is still strong as is the browning finish. They carry a heavy 1 1/4 oz. (850 bar) Nitro proof. So this is a stout piece that you can shoot with peace of mind! Those beautiful damascus barrels are balanced by stunning, high grade English walnut that really sets this gun apart. The figure, color, and contrast are absolutely fantastic! It carries a good oil finish, well defined checkering, modern stock dimensions and is paired with a traditional splinter forend (with push bottom release with best quality engraved escutcheon). The bores are clean and are choked a versatile light modified and improved modified… fantastic for upland birds and sporting clays! The traditional game rib is engraved “F.T, BAKER, 29 GLASSHOUSE ST. PICCADILLY CIRCUS, LONDON, W” (still very crisp and legible engraving). At 6lbs 15oz, its handles and swings great!
