Frederick Beesley A&D Boxlock Ejector – Lightweight Upland 12 Bore with Beautifully Figured Long Stock and Loads of Case Coloring
Description: Unofficially known as “The Inventor to the London Gun Trade” Frederick Beesley was a talented gunmaker as well as a prolific inventor. Most famously known for the self-opening action that he patented and sold to Purdeys which is used to this day with little modification by that famous firm. Listed here is a 20th century example of a lightweight Beesley boxlock ejector. Beesley no. 2690 was made in 1927 and has lots of residual case coloring. It has a long length-of-pull, highly figured European walnut stock and forearm, and packs the power of a 12 bore in a package that weighs just a few ounces over 6 pounds! Perfect for an upland day afield. Presented in its canvas and leather Brady-style case with maker’s label and some accessories. The 28” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and London proved for 1-1/8oz loads. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding 2-1/2” shotshells are being imported to this country by Game Bore and, of course, are available from RST Shells. The barrels are topped by a raised gamestyle rib which is inscribed “F.Beesley. 2 St. James’s Street. London S W 1”. The right barrel is bored 0.730 with a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The left barrel is bored 0.727 and has a constriction of 0.018 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.30. A perfect choking for the serious upland gunner. The barrel blacking shows some thinning in a few places from normal handling. The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured European walnut and finished in a hand rubbed oil finish. The checkering is crisp and the 7/8” wooden extension is well figured and has a checkered butt. There are a few minor handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 15” including a 7/8” checkered butt by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the righthanded shot. This is a well-made lightweight English upland boxlock from one of the great English gunmakers at an attractive price. Perfect for an upland day afield. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws.
