J & W Tolley 12 Bore Boxlock with 30” Highly Figured Nitro Damascus Barrels with 2-3/4” Chambers – Great Value

Description:
Sturdy J&W Tolley Anson & Deeley boxlock non-ejector with highly figured nitro Damascus barrels proofed and chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells. Tolley number 7081 was made circa 1887 – 91 and has a nicely figured French walnut stock and forearm. Border engraved with double triggers, extractors, and automatic safety. Good mechanical condition and tight on face. Comes with period leather case with pewter oil bottle and 3-piece cleaning rod. Nice handling and easy to carry for a day afield at 6lb 11oz.
The nicely figured 30” nitro Damascus barrels have recently been re-browned. They are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J & W Tolley Makers 1 Conduit St. Regent St. London”. The bores are shiny and bright and the exterior of the barrels has been beautifully rebrowned. The right barrel is bored 0.724 and has a constriction of 0.009 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is bored 0.717 with a constriction of 0.12 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028.
The pistol grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured French walnut with checkered panels. The pistol grip is made in the swept back Prince of Wales style with a bone cap and the forearm has a Deeley and Edge release. They have some handling marks and the checkering shows wear. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter.
This is a sturdy Anson & Deeley patent boxlock with border engraving. Nothing fancy but it is in good mechanical condition and tight on face. The nitro Damascus barrels have been beautifully rebrowned and are proofed and chambered for 2-3/4” cartridges. The case shows wear and needs to have the handle re-attached. The straps are in good condition. This Tolley would make a great “rain gun” or nice upland double for rough shooting through the briers and brambles.
