John Potter 12 Bore Bar Action Hammergun with 30" NItro Steel Barrels
Description: *** REDUCED *** Handsome and great handling John Potter 12 bore hammergun with highly figured English walnut stock and sharp engraving set up for the upland gunner with open chokes. The gun, number 684, was manufactured sometime in the period 1875 - 1887 and is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. It has graceful percussion style fences and weighs 6lb 13oz. The frame is nicely engraved and the barrels and trigger guard have recently been reblacked. *** The gun was rebarreled some time in the period 1925 - 1954 by A. Hill & Son. They are chambered for 2-1/2" shotshells. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave game style rib. The rib is inscribed "Barrels by A. Hill & Son Horncastle". The right barrel is bored 0.726 and has a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is bored 0.727 and also has a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.036. Nitro proofed to 1-1/8 oz shot. What a great gun to take afield for upland game like quail, grouse, and woodcock ! *** Nicely figured straight grip stock and splinter forearm. Excellent wood finish with crisp checkering. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4" over a thin butt plate by 1-1/2" by 2-1/4". Neutral cast. There is professionally repaired surface scratch on the left side of the stock. *** Wood and metal finishes have been professionally redone. There is some pitting on the breed face typical of guns of this era and the trigger guard shows engraving wear on the tang where the hand grips the wrist of the gun. *** Imagine walking up to pointed upland game with a great handling hammergun! Attractively priced. *** Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and other related fees. I give a three-day inspection and will only accept the time in return if not as described in the listing. SOLD Antique: Yes |
