PV NELSON MACKAY POINT 28/410
Description: Peter Nelson (PVN), started his gun making career as an apprentice actioner at Purdey through the 1950's and 60's. In 1971 he joined forces with the iconic firm of Hartmann & Weiss in Hamburg. In 1974 he returned to London to start Hartmann & Weiss, UK., making guns for 18 years under their brand, before later starting his own famous brand of P. V. Nelson. Sporting guns which became known for their quality and craftsmanship, incorporating all of the best aspects of fine English gun making. The Mackay Point is one of the finest examples of PVN's work, partnering with Phil Coggan, arguably the world's finest engraver, is an over/under two-barrel set, built using a Boss & Co style action in 28 bore and .410, bearing the unique serial number of "28410". Engraving theme for this firearm is a beautiful acanthus leaf pattern, with Bulino Game Scene of the original owner hunting over his famous 6,000-acre South Carolina Quail Plantation, dating back to1732. The stock on this beautiful shotgun is of exhibition grade figured walnut with near flawless checkering. It should be noted, this was the last gun built by Peter Nelson and is commemorated with the words "My Last Gun 2011" inlaid in gold on the rib of each barrel set. As we write, Phil Coggan is completing his last engraving for a Griffin & Howe client, before retiring. Making this a 'doubly' rare opportunity! Overall condition of this gun is immaculate, with only the faintest of handling marks on the stock. We were surprised to find that this firearm had actually been shot, as bores are near perfect, barrels are incredibly tight on the action.
