W & C Scott & Son Premier 12 ga – DAMASCUS, CRYSTAL INDICATORS, CERTIFIED, vintage firearms
Description: General Specs: W & C Scott & Son, 1885, 12 Gauge, 7lbs. 7oz., Chokes M/IM, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 11/16" Serial Number: 37019 Vintage Firearms is please to present this beautiful English live bird gun. Equally at home hunting waterfowl as upland game, this unique shotgun will catch the eye of everyone you shoot or hunt with. The star of this show is the very strong back action with crystal cocking indicator windows revealing gold washed hammers when cocked. Curved to match the contoured wrist of the gun, the engraving on the back action plates is a combination of game scene and oak branches and leaves – a Canadian Goose and two Long-tailed Ducks on the left and Pigeons on the right. The oak theme follows onto the sides of the receiver, interspersed with bursts of scroll at various points and around the barrel fences. The bottom of the frame and the trigger plate, trigger guard, forearm irons and key latch have scroll engraving as well, but also negative space that is welcome so as not to be too busy. Roughly 80% of the fading factory case color remains. The charcoal blued trigger guard has 65% finish remaining, worn at the typical hold points and around the edges of the guard. The 30-inch Damascus barrels are in very good condition, with a wide concave rib which hosts scroll engraving and an inlayed gold 8-pointed star decoration at the breech end, a small silver bead at the muzzle. The beautifully figured English walnut stock and forend have a few light handling marks, nice checkering, and a gorgeous hand-rubbed oil finish. The stock terminates in a checkered horn buttplate with a widow’s peak. The wood to metal fit at every point on this fine firearm is superb. The right barrel markings read “W & C Scott & Son Patent Triplex Lever Grip” denoting the solid three-point lock up of the action, with a dolls head, a cross-bar latch, and bottom lug. The left barrel reads “10 GT Castle Street Regent Circus London” which was the location of their London storefront, the gun was likely crafted in their Birmingham factory, where it was also proofed. The gun is tight on hinge and tight on face, locking up with the lever slightly right of center. The auto safety, double triggers, and extractors all function flawlessly. VFI CERTIFIED GUN HAVING THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON STRIPPED, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, ALL PARTS SCRUBBED CLEAN, INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED, AND REASSEMBLED, NOW CARRYING A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. This is a $450 service in our shop. Each time I pick this gun up in the shop I marvel at the quality, the craftsmanship, and the fact that you can still feel the hooks from the engraver’s cuts all these years after the work was done. This gun was built in 1885, and with the care that our capable gunsmiths have put into this gun, it is ready for many more years in the field and on the clays course. Enjoy!
