W.W. Greener Boxlock 12 Bore Pigeon Gun with 30” Nitro Steel Barrels – 1-1/4 Oz Proof – Very Highly Figured European Walnut
Description: Sturdy Greener Triple Wedge Fast Grade M 12 bore Pigeon Gun with 30” Siemens steel barrels and fabulous European walnut. Greener serial number 50299 was made in 1902. It is a strong and sturdy flyer competition gun with top extension, cross bolt, and 1-1/4oz proofs. A pigeon is engraved on the top rib at the breech end of the barrels. It has auto ejectors but no safety in keeping with the traditions of the day. Weighs 8lb 14oz. The 30” nitro Siemens steel barrels are proofed for 1-1/4oz loads and chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary not withstanding low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are available in the US from ARMUSA, Game Bore and RST Shells. The barrels are topped with a pigeon style solid tapered crosshatched rib. The top of the right barrel has the inscription “W.W. Greener 68 Haymarket London & St. Mary’s Square. Birmingham England”. The top of the left barrel is inscribed “Winner of the London Trials 1875 1877 1878 & 1879”. The bores are shiny and bright. Bluing has a nice patina. The right barrel is bored 0.733 with a constriction of 0.033 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.037. The left barrel is bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.041 for Extra Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.038. We are unsure if the stock is a restock but if so it has been professionally finished and checkered in very highly figured European walnut. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 1-3/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
