Fredrick T. Baker
Description: ***Sold pending funds*** London Best stocked to the fences sidelock ejector beautifully cased and in 98% condition, circa 1913 The 9 pin locks feature full coverage scroll engraving similar to that Churchill later used with original coin finish throughout. Interestingly Churchill apprenticed under Barker in London later striking out on his own. 28 inch original fluid steel barrels with unaltered 2 1/2 chambers soundly in proof at .736 left and .737 right with wall thickness of 27 thousandth left and 26 right. As Baker was a London maker, proof, and nitro proof marks correspond to that house. Blacking on barrels and furniture is near perfect with little to no signs of wear. Choked cylinder and Improved cylinder with mirror bores. Beautiful well figured smoke and honey stock and matching forearm original to the gun, crisp checkering and excellent oil finish. Very few and very light handling marks exist. Dimensions are excellent at 14 5/8 LOP to London Orange Silvers pad, drop at comb 1 ½ in. at heel 2 1/8 in, 1/8 cast off for a right hand shooter. Weighing 6 lbs. 6 oz., it displays outstanding handling dynamics; a true game gun. Meticulously maintained, this gun comes with an interesting provenance. It was made by Baker for Lieutenant M.V. Foy of the Queen's Regiment during World War. It saw virtually no service by him as he was killed in the trenches of Belgium only a few months after taking delivery. The gun remained held in ownership by the family and was used in sport for the past 100 years until being purchased from them and acquired by me. Details of Foy's life and death are chronicled and will be included. $6,950 to a new caretaker. SOLD Manufacturer: F.T.
