Jules Bury for L. Christophe SLE 12 gauge


Description:
Made in Belgium by Jules Bury for retailer L. Christophe, SLE 12 gauge SxS shotgun.   The frame is 100% covered in very fine scroll engraving intertwined with an elaborate floral pattern.  The engraving is on par with the finest engraving that I’ve seen!  The pattern continues to the trigger guard and the long tang.

The 26” solid rib barrels have factory 2 ¾” chambers with the right barrel has a .734” bore with a negative .005”; the left barrel has a .729” bore an is fitted with a Briley series 26 Modified choke.  Pretty good combination for upland hunting. The hand-filed, slightly swamped solid rib that tapers from 7/16” to 3/16” at the muzzle.  Ivory front and mid beads.

The action leaves no room for ever loosening:  Double under lug locks, hidden third fastener and side clips.  Double triggers and selective ejectors.  Non automatic safety. Cocking indicators.  Articulated front trigger.

The straight grip and splinter forearm are original to the gun.  The stock has a LOP of 14 ½” over a 1” added pad.  1 ½” DAC; 2 ¼” DAH with very significant cast for a right-hand cast; 1/2” at the heel and 5/8” at the toe.

The coin finished frame is in fabulous condition, even with the screw slots remaining in very fine condition.  The barrel blue is very good except on the bottom between the Anson forearm release and the muzzle, there are quite a few spots of shallow rust that could easily be removed with a re-blacking of the barrels.  The trigger guard was probably blued and no finish remains.  The stock and forearm are both cut from a nicely grained piece of walnut which is hidden by an old, dark finish.  The checkering is very fine but mostly smooth that needs to be re-cut.

So here is a really fine, Belgain best sidelock ejector game gun with some minor finish issues that in no way affect the lively handling and well-built L. Christophe.
