Description: Vintage Early 20th Century SXS by Henri Peiper Herstal Belgium Offered here for sale is a newly acquired DESIRABLE classic vintage made in Belgium classic side by side shotgun manufactured by Henri Peiper and Bayard in the early part of the 20th century. This 16-gauge side-by-side shotgun, marked "Anciens Etablissements Pieper Herstal" and bearing serial number 21942, was likely manufactured between 1905 and 1910. This period aligns with the company's operations under the name Anciens Etablissements Pieper, which began in 1905 following Henri Pieper's death in 1898. The Herstal address indicates production at the company's facility in Herstal, Belgium, which was operational during this timeframe Henri Pieper founded his arms manufacturing business in Herstal, Belgium, in 1884. After his death in 1898, his son Nicolas Pieper continued the business, renaming it Anciens Etablissements Pieper in 1905. The company was known for producing a variety of firearms, including shotguns, rifles, and pistols, under various trade names such as Bayard, Eagle Gun Works, and Le Rationnel . The shotgun features include 16 gauge. Barrel Length: 29 inches.Chokes: CYL & CYL in both barrels. The bores exhibit spotting from black powder use but remain free of pitting. The barrels display a mix of blue and gray patina, with clear Belgian proofmarks and a stamped horse-and-rider emblem, characteristic of Pieper's branding.The stock features finely checkered pistol grip and forearm, along with a cheekrest, indicating quality craftsmanship.The presence of Belgian proofmarks on the barrels is significant.
