Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R J. P. Sauer & Sohn Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa 1911 in Suhl, Germany. The first Sauer company was founded in 1751 by Lorenz Sauer in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany, this locality being known as Waffenstqadt Suhl in the past because of its many gunmakers. In 1815 Johann-Gottlob Sauer started managing the firm and in 1835 Johann Paul Sauer became manager. It was in 1840 that Johann Paul and his son, Lorenz Sauer created the new name and trademark of J.P. Sauer & Sohn. J. P. Sauer and Sohn is the oldest recorded firearms manufacturer in Germany and is still active today.

The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish and case colors. Fine engraving. Horn butt plate. The actions are excellent. The bores are bright and smooth. There is a small split at the toe of the stock and a corresponding chip on the butt plate but the rest of the stock is solid and in great shape. Numbers match.
