RARE Presentation 20 Gauge Houllier Blanchard Top Lever Double Barrel Shotgun Fluid Steel Barrels from 1887
Description: Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars who prides themselves on showing the complete gun in high quality pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration. We offer you a “RARE” 20 Gauge Houllier Blanchard Top Lever Double Barrel Shotgun with Fluid Steel Barrels from 1887. To start with this is #2 of a pair of presentation shotguns that the history has been lost during the last 135 years. Is has been restored long ago judging by the repair to the butt stock. It wears 29 ¼ inch fluid steel barrels with 2 ½ inch cambers and excellent bores with no issues. The finish is in excellent condition with no signs of old pitting under the finish. The rib is marked with the roman number “II” followed by “HOULLIER BLANCHARD A. NOUVILLE SUCCESSEUR PARIS”. Or at least that is how I’m reading it. It’s in script and not easy to make out, neither is the writing in the scroll work on each side of the receiver. The left side “HOULLIER BLANCHARD A. NOUVILLE SUCC”. The right side “CANONNIER ARQUEBUSIER BREVET PARIS”. The lever is also marked with the roman number “II”. The markings on the water table and forearm are shown in the pictures. This design of the shotgun is such that the forearm is attached to the receiver. Once you push the release lever over, the gun opens and with a push of the button on the end of the forearm the barrels are released and lift off. The forearm has a plaque design that was carved out of the wood with gold initials as shown. I would expect those were those of the original owner the gun was presented too. The forearm is in excellent condition as you can see. The butt stock was broken and repaired as mentioned. Some of the filler has become loose over the years and the repair material has separated as you can see. The butt stock shows a high quality of figure as you can see. The birds beak checkered butt plate also shows quality. There are several gold accented parts to the gun as we have shown. The gun functions just fine and is a very fine looking and configured double from long ago.
