Exquisite 16 Gauge German Box Lock Unidentified Maker
Description: This is an exquistely made German 16 gauge shotgun, that has an unbelieveable like new, look to it...However, it is quite old and made prior to the end of ww2...It has been recently refurbished and restocked by master craftsmen...According to consigner, this fine gun came home from Germany at the end of the war, with Col. Burke, of the 6th U.S. Armored Division, a unit of Patton's Third Army...The story goes that this is one of several fine guns that were discovered in an estate, occupied for awhile by the Division Head Quarters Staff...The commanding general of the division arranged for each of his field officers to receive a gun, as a momento from him for their service and for his appreciation of them...This story is not documented, having been passed down verbally, by the colonel's heir...However, quick research did reveal that there was a Major Burke, who served as as a staff officer with the 6th Armored... Anyway, more about this gun...The 29 1/2" barrels are chambered for 2 1/2" shells. Chokes are ic and full. Bores have been polished, leaving only a residue of the previous pitting...There was also some shallow pitting on the underside of the barrels, under the chambers. That pitting has been brased and polished flat...It is an extractor gun, with fine double triggers...The semi pistol stock has a 14" length of pull over a horn butt plate...The materials, fit and finish of this gun are of the higest quality...The refinishing and restocking work is also of the highest quality...Rather than me trying to describe it, please review the pictures and be overwhelmed... Guesses as to maker id are encouraged...Based on engraving patterns and architecture, best guess so far is Christoph Funk of Suhl... SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
