German Custom 16-Gauge Game Gun, Krupp Steel Barrels, Extensive Game-Scene Engraving, Weighs 6 Pounds 2 Ounces
Description: The master gunsmith who created this 16-gauge shotgun, and the person he made it for, are unknown. However, the quality of this gun is evident in its superb balance and handling, light weight, fine engraving, 32-point checkering, Greener cross bolt, fences, and engraved barrels. This shotgun was very likely brought to the United States by a GI after WWII. The original pommel was missing, which suggests that it may have been made of precious metal perhaps engraved with a family crest. The weight and balance of this gun are such that it can be shouldered with the right hand while pushing away tag alders with the left. It is an awesome grouse and quail gun. The 70-centimeter (27-5/8”) nitro-proofed Krupp steel barrels have 70-millimeter (2-3/4”) chambers and are both without constriction (cylinder choke). Both bores are .688” measured at 9 inches from the breech, and the outside diameters of the barrels at the muzzle are both .740”. The minimum wall thickness for the right barrel is .025” and the left barrel .026”. The bores are bright and the exterior of the reconditioned barrels is flawless. The stock and forearm are made of English walnut. Drop at the comb is 1-5/8” and at the heel 2-3/8”. Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the recoil pad is 14”. The replacement for the pommel is made of ebony. The gun has had a full preventive maintenance service, a $250 value. The gun locks up tightly. Both triggers pull at 4 pounds of pressure. The gun weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces. The price does not include shipping cost, which is paid by buyer. The inspection period is 10 days from receipt. The gun has been hunted and fired on the range on many occasions using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing.
