Engraved AUSTRIAN SxS Rifle & 16g. Shotgun Combination Hammer CAPE GUN C&R
With CHECKERED STOCK and Nice ENGRAVINGS
Description: Engraved AUSTRIAN SxS Rifle & 16g. Shotgun Combination Hammer CAPE GUN C&R With CHECKERED STOCK and Nice ENGRAVINGS Here we present a C&R Austrian Side x Side Rifle & Shotgun Cape Gun, manufactured circa the turn of the century Austria. These were typically high-end hunting weapons that featured a side-by-side configuration with one barrel rifled and the other smooth. The hunter would use the rifled barrel to fire long range, precise shots against large game and the smooth side could be loaded with a large ball or slug for a quick follow up shot, especially on large and dangerous game. Or the smooth bore could be loaded with shot to make it feasible to hunt fowl at the same time without carrying multiple guns. The gun has two triggers to allow either barrel as needed. Cape guns made in Germany, Belgium, and Austria usually have the rifled barrel on the right side (as is this one), while British made cape guns are usually reversed. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead or put game on the table. This one features two triggers, one for each bore. The rifle’s trigger is of the single set variety, providing a very light, crisp break for precision shooting. There is a central blade front sight with a barrel-mounted semi-buckhorn rear, plus the bonus of a flip up peep sight on the frame tang, again for more precise aiming. The barrels are proofed for 10mm on the rifle side and 16 gauge for the shotgun. The rifle cartridge we have not yet been able to positively identify but the chamber dimensions are: from the breech face to the rifling 2.471”; diameter of the back of the chamber .455”. Rim recess depth is .085”. The muzzle measures approximately .390”. The overall condition is fine. Original blue and case colored finish. The actions are excellent. The bores are bright with sharp rifling in the one and smooth surfaces in the smooth bore. The stock is smooth and solid. The splinter forearm has some chipping around the edges yet remains perfectly functional. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrels are 27-3/4 inches. Caliber: 10mm Rifle (see above) beside a 16 Gauge Shotgun Shotgun Chamber: 2-1/2 inch with extractor Choke: Full LOP: 13-1/2 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1500 #220648 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
