GL Rausch 16 gauge double hammer SxS shotgun
Description:
A lovely GL Rasch hammer double 16 gauge shotgun manufactured in Germany sometime around 1890 . The gun was probably originally a combination rifle/shotgun as the front trigger for the right barrel has a set trigger feature. The current 16 gauge barrels are replacement barrels with full and full chokes. GL Rasch was one of a long line of family makers from the 1630's . His shop was established in 1822 in the town of Brunswick. His sons took over the business until the town of Brunswick was bombed and all records of the family and business was destroyed. GL Rasch was a master gunsmith himself but sourced a lot of their guns in the white out of Liege, Shula, Zella Melissa and Belgium. They then used an engraver in Herzbrg to do their distinctive style of engraving . They are known for their unique square checkered style engraving with dots in the middle of the squares used on their guns mixed in among game scenes and floral engraving on top ribs , fences and butt plate as can be seen on this example as well. Barrels are 29 1/2" Long with a single silver front bead and have been newly rust blued with bright bores. Length of pull on stock is 13 1/2 " with 3" drop at heel. Gun weighs 5 lb. 14 oz.. Shotgun comes with a hard case with a pair of snap caps. Finish of wood is like new on a new restoration with a crack repair under the side locks. See picture. .
