Merkel 200E 20 Ga - AS NEW, RARE DOUBLE TRIGGER, 1952, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Merkel, Year 1952, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 15oz, Chokes LM/F, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 36526 Gerbruder Merkel of Suhl Germany is an incredible gun maker. They make all manner of fine guns that run the gamut from entry level side by side guns to more elaborate, engraved ejector over/under guns like the one being reviewed here. This Merkel 200E is a finely made shotgun with well executed hand-cut scroll engraving, bone and charcoal case color, double trigger with the front trigger hinged (nearly impossible to find on an over/under), a rare English stock, a 3 piece, slim, field-style forend, classy solid rib, and ejectors. With the double Kersten crossbolt lock up, in tandem with the through action barrel lug, provides and incredibly strong gun that can handle the most stout magnum loads. The scalloped back of the action, the sculpted frame, hand cut checkering, gracefully shaped stock make for an elegant looking gun. This gun, sn36526 built in 1952, is in excellent condition and is the perfect upland 20ga. with 26” LM/F chokes (my favorite pheasant chokes) mirror shiny bores, tight solid ribs, action tight on the breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, cocking indicators, great stock dimensions and is a very attractive German made over/under. Weighing just 5lbs. 15oz., balanced dead on the hinge pin, stocked with a classy English stock ending with a horn buttplate, and very slim 3-piece forend, this gun appears to be near new with 100% vivid case color, barrel blue, and trigger guard blue. The triggers are case colored as well and show no wear. THE METAL ON THIS GUN HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED…THESE ARE FACTORY FINISHES. The wood does appear to have had finish applied over the years, after all, the gun is 71 years old and wood finishes don’t hold up like the metal does. This is an investment quality firearm that continues to gain value as you enjoy its use. This fine over/under shotgun will do just as well on the sporting clays or trap field, and is offered for sale just in time for you to get ready for the upcoming upland season. We are all aware of the top-quality engineering and materials that go into German made products and this Merkel is a great demonstration of what we expect from the German gunmakers.
