Charles Boswell 12 Bore Boxlock Ejector Pigeon Gun – Finest Engraving and Highly Figured 30” Nitro Damascus Barrels With 2-3/4” Chambers
Description: *** SOLD *** Charles Boswell was known for the high quality of the guns he made and his pigeon guns were particularly sought after. This boxlock ejector, no. 14314, was made in 1902 and is a beautiful example of this great London maker’s work. It has some of the nicest engraving I have seen on a Boswell as well as the highest figured Damascus barrels I have ever seen. Lots of residual case coloring on the frame. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of this handsome gun is its handling. In the hands of a skilled shot it will be a responsive and lethal weapon. *** This pigeon gun has double triggers, automatic ejectors, and a manual safety. It has a top rib extension and crossbolt for extra strength. Overall weight is 7lb 10oz. *** The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of wonderfully figured English walnut. The checkering is crisp and the wood was recently refinished to a beautiful satin lustre. Stock dimensions are 15-1/2” by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthanded shot. It currently has a 1-1/4” leather pad, however, the length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the wood measures 14-3/16” so with the installation of different thickness pads the length of pull can be adjusted to fit most shooters without altering the stock. *** The 30” nitro Damascus barrels have 2-3/4” chambers and were recently reproved. They are topped by a raised solid slightly concave rib which is more pleasing to the eye than the typical oversized pigeon ribs of the era. The rib has the inscription “Charles Boswell. Maker. 126 Strand. London. W.C.”. The right barrel is bored 0.725 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. The left barrel is bored 0.0733 and has a constriction of 0.024 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. *** Cased in a period leather case with maker’s label and accessories. The accessories include snap caps, leather handguard, walnut cleaning rod, cleaning attachments. The leather exterior of the case is in good condition with below average wear for its age. However, the leather has pulled away from the lid in two places as shown in the photos which is an easy fix. *** This is a very responsive pigeon gun that would be great in the pigeon rings or for clays or game. Proofed and chambered for modern ammunition. It is one of the most outstanding Boswells I have ever carried. You will enjoy shooting this classic made by one of the great pigeon shots of his day. Don’t let it slip away. *** I only sell to US residents. This gun is classified as a “modern” firearm and will require shipping to an FFL. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. The buyer will be very pleased with the condition of this firearm. SOLD |
