Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of far superior strength and mechanical genius that was under the micro management of John Olin himself. Model 21's are fully capable of shooting the most powerful loads, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN. With only 32,000 M21’s produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm. This fine Model 21, sn2963 built in 1934, is a rather rare Trap/Skeet Grade factory 2-barrel set. They only catalogued the Trap/Skeet Grade from 1933 to 1939, and this versatile set is ready for the clay target games of skeet, trap, and sporting clays. If you are a bird hunter the set will handle all your needs from flushing grouse to pass shooting geese high overhead. This is a gorgeous Model 21 with highly figured wood, perfect checkering and wood-to-metal fit, hand-rubbed oil finish, awesome stock dimensions, and a hard-to-find English style stock. The 26” barrels retain 99% factory blue, perfect mirror bores and the gun weighs a comfortable 7lbs. 7oz. with these barrels. The 30” barrels have 100% rust blue, perfect bores, choked M/F. Both sets are tight on hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. We stripped the action and forend iron to their smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned all, inspected all parts for function and integrity, lubricated and reassembled (a $275 service in our shop). The screws are perfect, the ejectors are strong and perfectly timed, and the triggers are crisp breaking at 3.5lbs. and 4.25lbs….perfection! The factory letter details the gun but does not mention the second set of barrels. There is no order sheet available that would provide further information on the custom features that may have been added to the order. We know the roll stamps on both barrels are from the era of 1933 to 1935, and the serial number stamps are the same font on both sets of barrels, so it is certain this was built as a two-barrel set. The letter requests that “TRAP” be stamped on the receiver, likely because it was a set designed for trap AND skeet. The restoration of the receiver has been done to perfection, with Turnbull Restoration doing the charcoal blue on the action, trigger guard, and forend metal as was proper in 1934. It is NOT the dark black, paint-like finish you see on most all the restored M21’s for sale on the internet. This is a PROPER, HISTORICALLY CORRECT, FACTORY QUALITY RESTORATION. The set is housed in a CUSTOM FIT LEATHER CASE WITH TRADE LABEL AND ALL THE ACCESSORIES. The case is fitted to the gun and barrels so there is no movement in the case during travel or storage. It is NOT a generic, one-size-fits-all, but a fine custom leather case valued at $1500. This Model 21 looks like it just left the factory, inside and out, and is priced to sell. Winchester will never make the Model 21 again, and this useful and stunning set will appreciate in value as you enjoy its use! Thanks for looking.
