Standard Mfg. DP-12 12ga Dbl. Barrel Bullpup Shotgun Excellent Condition w/Custom Case
Description: Originally introduced at the 2015 Shot Show, the DP-12 created a big stir in gun circles. The concept of placing the action of a firearm behind the trigger, a configuration known as a bullpup, was still had already been proven by the Kel-Tec KSG, but up until 2015, pump-action shotguns and double-barrel shotguns were mutually exclusive. The advantage of the advantage of the bullpup configuration meant a reduced overall length while having a barrel as long as or even longer than its more conventional counterparts. The advantage of a pump shotgun is that it is more inherently reliable than a semi-automatic one. The purpose of a double barrel is to put a lot of buckshot onto the target all at once. To combine all of these concepts at once would be to create a very powerful multi-purpose shotgun in a small package. For example, the DP-12’s 18.875” barrel is essentially the same length as other home defense shotguns, but here it is present in a firearm that is 29.5 inches long compared to say, the Mossberg 590 (an excellent shotgun), which can range from 31 to 41 inches in length (depending on the barrel length and stock configuration). The shell capacity makes the DP-12 stand out from its peers even further. Unlike most shotguns which have a single magazine tube, the DP-12 has two, a necessity for feeding two barrels instead of the usual one. The magazines of the DP-12 can hold 7 shells in each tube, for a total of 14 plus two compared to the 6 to 8 plus one of standard shotguns like the 590. Another neat feature of the DP-12 is that due to the fact the shotgun ejects empty shells downward, it can be used by a left-handed shooter as well as a right-handed shooter. Indeed, the DP-12’s controls are designed to be fully ambidextrous. The DP-12 comes in at 12 lbs. with an optic – a little on the heavy side but considering the DP-12’s unique capabilities this understandable. Again, the excellent 590 serves as a good comparison. The 590 with SKU 50778 has the 18.5” barrel, a capacity of 6+1, total length of 38-5/8 inches, and weighs 6.3 lbs. – around half the weight of the DP-12, but with less than half the firepower and at a much greater length as well. The 590 with SKU 50693 has a longer 20” barrel, a capacity of 8+1, but a total length of 41 inches and weighs 7.75 lbs. Still lower in weight, but of even greater length. As you can see, the standard shotgun begins to produce diminishing returns in barrel length, overall length, and weight in order to give it an ammo capacity only ½ that of the DP-12’s. The DP-12 shown here is used but has seen little use. A Holosun HS510C red dot sight has been fitted. This model is very well suited for use on shotguns. The DP-12 comes with a very nice carry case made by the Peak Case Co. The case features a full cutout for the DP-12 as well as a handgun (unknown make and model), as well as cutouts for individual shotgun shells and a cutout for 5-round boxes of shotgun shells (up to 4 boxes). The ammo shown is mainly for display. There is also a metal container with a perforated surface that houses moisture absorbing pellets. Also included are the manual and choke removal tool. This is a very nice setup overall. SOLD Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge Manufacturer: Standard Mfg. Co.
